Monday September 24 – The Children’s Garden, Carnation

Farm Management: Fresh Cut Flowers and Vegetables PCC Land Trust Recipient Fong Cha grows flowers and vegetables on his 10 acre farm in Carnation. Learn how Fong manages to hold a full time off-farm job and still maintain his farm, farm stand, and attend farmers markets. Also discussed will be Fongs' intriguing philosophies regarding farming, marketing, and life in general. (Transitioning to Organic)

Driving Directions: Traveling east on I-90 from Seattle, take the Preston/Fall City Exit. Turn left at the stop an go back over the freeway. Turn right at the next intersection onto Preston/Fall City Rd. SE. Continue approximately 7 minutes to Fall City and turn right at the stop. Take the next (almost immediate) left onto HWY 203 towards Carnation (there may be a roundabout by that time). Children's Garden will be about 3 minutes on your right, marked by a sign.


Tuesday September 11 – Helsing Junction Farm, Rochester

Diversified Vegetable Pest Control Helsing Junction Farm is an 18 year-old, 35-acre organic fruit, flower and herb farm serving 650 CSA members in Seattle, Olympia and Portland. Farmers Anna Salafsky and Susan Ijcic will share the history of their steadily growing farm business as well as their challenges in refining planting and seeding schedules and rotation for 75 different vegetables. They will also discuss their Food Bank CSA Farm Project and how they create opportunities for children to participate in harvesting food in the field and donating to families in need. Farmers will discuss symphylans, touring the fields while sharing their experience and exploring possible solutions for eliminating this damaging pest. (Organic) 

Driving Directions: I-5 south: take exit 88, turn right onto 12 West. Go 6 miles to Rochester. Turn left at light on Albany Street, go 3 blocks, turn right on 185th, bear 
left, turns into Marble Rd then turns into Independence Rd. Our Farm is on 
the right 1.5 miles past the bridge over the Chehalis river.

I-5 north: take exit 88 B, the rest is the same.

Monday October 8 –Skagit River Ranch, Sedro-Woolley

Grass-Based Meat Production Learn how George, Eiko and Nicole Vojkovich maximize the health of their certified organic, 100% grass-fed cows, certified organic chickens (broilers and eggs) and pigs. Tour their grass, legume and herb pastures; discuss pasture management, rotation regimens and how to break the parasite cycle to promote healthy metabolisms and strong immune system function. Tour the mill used to produce feed from whole grains for the pigs and chickens. Discuss environmental challenges facing westside grass-fed meat producers, and innovative advances in slaughter and processing. (Organic, USDA & WSDA inspected)

Driving Directions: From I-5 heading North, pass Mt. Vernon, take Exit 230 (Cook Rd), go east (right off freeway). Get on Hwy 20 toward Lyman (east/left). Pass through Sedro-Woolley. Right past mile marker 70, take a Right on Hoehn Rd. Turn Left on Utopia Rd. We are 2nd driveway on right. Follow parking signs. 360-856-0722


Monday October 22- Bluebird Grain Farms, Winthrop

Certified Organic Grains Brooke & Sam Lucy will cover the growing, processing and sales of organic emmer, rye, red wheat and flax, which they produce with an emphasis on nutritional value. They will discuss creating and marketing fresh custom-milled flour and dry grain products. (Organic)

Driving Directions: Heading North-West on Hwy 20 Toward Seattle take a right on the West Chewuch Road. Travel approximently 1 mile take a left on the Rendezvous Road- a dirt road right next to the Okanogan Electric Coop. As you head up the Rendezvous Road stay to your right- you will go up a steap grade( do not turn left onto the Gunn Ranch Road). Once you level out into a valley look for a Yellow/Blue sign with our logo (A Bluebird ). Turn Right. This Turn is exactly 2.3 miles from the Rendezvous Turn off.
