 Tilth Producers Apprentice Placement Service
THE CARE AND FEEDING OF APPRENTICES

Please read this first and then print out the application form.

The actual apprenticeship arrangement will be made directly between the participating farms and apprentices.  As such, the Tilth Placement Service and the Tilth Producers organization cannot guarantee the satisfaction of the farmers or the apprentices.

· Incorporate the apprentice into your family and community; show them around and introduce them to your friends and neighbors.

· Encourage local apprentices to meet and share their experiences.

· Provide a formal or informal time for education; open your library, and your mind, to your apprentice.

· Furnish a list of resources: Cooperative Extension, Tilth, other books and periodicals.

· Remember to praise good work and gently correct mistakes.

· Don't expect an apprentice to perform the same as a salaried employee. The rewards and expectations are different.

· Trust your apprentice, give him or her some independence and responsibility; allow some initiative.

· Take some time out for fun.

· Send them off at the end of the work season with lists of seed, tool and other input suppliers.
